Ascended is supposed to be harder than vanilla, so that’s probably a good way to separate them. If you want an experience close to the base game go reforged. If you want to be an absolutely overpowered spell caster go convergence. Convergence does allow for easier exploration with all the portals to erdtrees and stuff.
